How do you know if your birkenstock shoes insoles need to be replaced?

With many Birkenstock shoes, the insole can be pulled out easily. It needs to be replaced if the insole is cracked, or if you find that it is wearing down from lots of wear. (If it is just black from normal wear, try using Paxton's Sandal Saver to clean it up.)

If your Birkenstock shoes are made more like the sandals, where the cork footbed is attached to the outer sole, (such as in the London style), replacing the footbed is more expensive and often it makes more sense to just get a new pair. Rebuilding Birkenstocks, where you replace this type of footbed, costs about $70 and the end result is not always a shoe that feels just like it used to.
