Anyone know anything about Orthotic Insoles?

The custom made ones are £195 but the normal ones you can buy from the shop are £20.





Is there any problem with just buying the normal shop ones? Will they work?

Custom orthotics are just what the name implies...custom. They are made to correct the exact problem that you have. If you have foot/gait issues, it will eventually affect your knees and hips and the musculature and bone and soft tissue of the lower extremities. If the issue is severe enough it can even have effect on the spine.





Store orthotics make your foot feel better in the shoe, they do not specifically correct your issue. If you have pes planus, they may help support the tissues of the arch, and if you pronate, they may help some, but not enough.





Normally store inserts are made completely of foam, sometimes a little plastic. Whereas, custom orthotics are molded and made for your foot. The support is better. Usually now they are made using a computer assisted gait analyser which produces an orthotic specifically designed for the physics required to correct your gait issues.





The cost is usually worth it in the long run. Also consider that if you have a gait abnormality, usually your shoes break down significantly faster, and you end up spending more on shoes, you may end up paying for the orthotics with the cost savings on shoes alone. Much less the savings on paracetamol and ibuprofen, and chiropractic later on.
Reply:Unfortunetly yes ! I had to pay £165.00 for custom made ones :( But they really do work.





And the normal shop ones will not work ,you need custom made ones.

Reply:I got some over the internet called "sole"; made in USA. You heat them in the oven and then stand in them for 2 minutes and they take up the shape of your foot. They have worked very well for me and cost about £35. Not all podiatrists charge as much as £195 either, you could shop around.

Reply:IF you have health ins, you can get them from a foot doctor for free.
Reply:it depends what the custom ones are being made for.


if you are over pronating - rolling your foot inwards when you are walking then shop ones will be fine, thats just about the only thing they correct.


if youhave a more sever problem like over supination - your foot rolling out, or some sort of deformity you will need custom insoles
