Shoe care questions?

I have had a pair of shoes for four years. They are black leather slip on shoes that vaguely resemble "boots". They are nice enough to wear to the office and rugged enough to wear for long periods of time. However, after four years of wearing them for 8-16 hours a day, 5-7 days a week (and at one job for almost 3 years I was always standing in them), they are not doing so well. They are wrinkled and stretched out, the cloth and foam supporting the heel has worn away, and I have to replace the insoles every 3-4 months.

So here are my questions:

How long is too long to keep a pair of shoes? I am starting to wonder, if insoles cost about $10, so $30-40 a year and the shoes cost $80, I am starting to waste my money.

Next: What are some tips on taking care of leather shoes, and shoes in general, to make them last longer?

Last: What is a good brand of leather shoe? They have to be available in wide width, be comfortable, and have good ankle and arch support!

Thanks!

Your best bet would be like lowry's double your vertical jump...

it's linked to on this page http://increasedvertical.blogspot.com/

Very very effective for improving jump.
Reply:Well, I heard one way is to stand on a chair, and then with one leg and you bend it and with the other (plus your arms) try to balance yourself and you switch legs, you do it for like for 5-10 minutes a day . . . or something very similar to that!! I over heard a teacher (maybe he was coach too) tell, and demonstrate this to one of the basketball players, to in prove his vertical jump!! Hope you find something good to help you!!! :)

How can I keep my heel from coming out of my shoes?

I bought a really comfortable pair of shoes--they fit great but my heel keeps coming out of them when I walk. How can I fix this WITHOUT buying a full insole? Do they sell something just for the heel area? (The insoles in the shoes themselves are fuzzy and quite comfortable, so I don't want to have to cover them up.) Suggestions?

How can I keep my heel from coming out of my shoes?
THE SHOE ISNT TOO SMALL- if it slips its TOO BIG! "morons"

a heel grip will work but they are useless and you will have them stuck to your socks, tights trousers and your cat lol, you can get suede and gel varieties, that will just stop your heel from slipping out at the back.

or you can get a half insole (leather ons are best as a latex one will disintergrate) which works the same as a heel grip (we tend to recomend these more in shoe shops as they are better for your feet) they just sit at the front and you can barely see them so you still have the 'fuzzy'ness of the original insole

check out these http://www.scholl-footcare.com/uk/whats_...

as they cushion your feet more if you are standing up a lot or if they are high heels. buy a decent pair, bot too cheap as they dont work as well
Reply:hmmmmmmmmmmmm....TRY A BIGGER SHOE!!!!!
Reply:yes, they do...try jcpenneys (or a similar store) either in the shoe dept or the panty hose dept...
Reply:GET BIGGER SHOES MORON
Reply:You can buy heel grips at most any store like Walmart or Target. They're these little cushions that stick to the back of the shoe so your foot doesn't slip out.
Reply:If your heel is coming out of your shoe... then it doesnt fit you. The only real way to fix that is to.. um... get shoes that fit you.
Reply:Walmart sells "heel grips" in the shoe dept. that sticks to the inside of the heel and hugs your heel.

PLEASE HELP??? I need some Extremely comfortable slip-resistant restaurant shoes.?

My work shoes are KILLING my feet and I work about 7-10 hour shifts at work, so I'm pretty much standing all day!!!! I really need you guys to help me. People at work tell me to Dr. Scholl's insoles for my shoes and I think it's a good idea because I already got work shoes that are slip-resistant, I just DESPERATLY need COMFORT in my shoes but some say insoles aren't that great and they think I should get a new pair of Reebok from Academy.

** What is your opinion on which I should chose or even a suggestion of a different brand maybe????

** Speak you mind please I'm all ears!!!

Crocs might be a good choice if your employer will let you.
Reply:I have tried a lot of types over the years and my favorites are the selection available at www.keukafootwear.com. From the website: As a Keuka Footwear customer, you are assured of our Keuka Guarantee of Satisfaction. Also, as some have suggested in previous posts, if none of these suit your needs (which they should) I would check into purchasing shoes for nursing. If the correct ones are purchased they are both slip resistant %26amp; comfortable to support long working hours.

Reply:Look at Nurses Shoes, think about it, they are on there feet all day, long shifts, and orthopedics are almost custom made to fit medical professionals.

They normally come in white but can be dyed black easy.

They are comfy, non skid, built to walk and stand in.

Reply:I was once a nurse and had the same problem long shifts and needed non slip shoes, Hush puppies shoes are brilliant not that great to look at but flat, non slip and are the most comfortable shoes ever even after a long day at work!!!!
Reply:Crocs are comfortable and slip resistant. Even a lot of surgeons are wearing them.
Reply:waitress for 20 years. Payless (yes Payless) has a pair of black slip-ons...no laces, no velcro, its just a loafer. I've been wearing them for about 7 years now and a LOT of pp I work are wearing them as well.

Sketchers Ballyhoo- (white) it's a bike shoe. SUPER COMFY super cute- however I did notice they were a little slippery when I went in the coolers. (?)

I had no problem spending $60 for black rebok hightops for years until I discovered the Payless shoe.

***note- a customer complimented my Ballyhoo %26amp; about 5 other EMPLOYEES chimed in--"I'm wearing sketchers, too"
Reply:try first of all purchasing a good pair of shoes like dr martins or dansko clogs, then purchase some of the insoles for added padding. working long shifts on cement are killers on your feet, legs and back . they wont prevent problems but can help.
Reply:I used to wait tables and my feet would ache and hurt at the end of my shifts.

Try Dankso clogs. They're the best! Doctors and nurses wear them all the time. I do believe they have a line for "professionals" such as yourself who need anit-slip, anti- static, white or other specific features.

You also might want to check out Birkenstock. They have a line of professional shoes too.

Both options are a bit pricey, but as I always say, you get what you pay for. I have worn both brands and I have no complaints. It will literally take you forever to wear these shoes out!
Reply:not sure where you live, but if it is in the UK then Clarks have the most comfy shoes. they are not cheap, but they are extremely comfortable and last well.

Best shoes for retail work?

I worked retail all through high school and college, then I left it for years to find something better. Well, turns out retail was better after all becuase I got head hunted by a chain pharmacy as a manager! I want to do a good job and have been pushing myself really hard, but after two days my feet are really really sore. I can barely walk. I have a bad back and knees, I have insoles to correct my posture and keep my back from hurting and they work amazingly well. Unfortunately they are made of hard plastic and are hurting my feet even more. Any advice to help my feet? Good shoe brands? Posture correcting insoles that would be better on my feet? The decent pay as a manager has not started coming in yet, so for now im pretty broke. My feet are throbbing right now (my day off) so any tips on that would help to!

Best shoes for retail work?
Naturalizer, Easy Spirit, Crocs, or check out Nordstroms or shoe pavillion for these brands. They have some good deals sometimes. Casual shoes that feels like athletics are great. Something like Keds, they have some cute styles. Zappos.com is also good. They offer free shipping to and fro so you don't lose anything. Plus there's reviews. Support socks helped me for a while. It's tighter along the arch and at the top of the sock. Good luck!

Have a leg discrepancy due to surgery need 1" adjustable insole or leg lift?
Leg length discrepancy if it is less than 1 inch can be resolved by raising the sole of the footware. If it is more than 1 inch surgical options such as Ilizarow techniques(bone distraction technique to lengthen leg) can be done under supervision of orthopaedic surgeon. Later rehabilitation done by Physiotherapist.

Shoe problems!!!?

i have these special insoles for my shoes because i have "fallen arches".

problem is, i can never get any shoes that fit them. they make your heel really high up i need shoes that have deep heel bits.

my doctor gave me a list of shoes to try, but theyre all old granny shoes. please help! right now i just dont wear the insoles but i know it's bad for me because my legs hurt all the time!

Shoe problems!!!?
Hmm...You could try little ankle boots. I have a pair from Walmart and they're pretty cute, they don't look granny-ish and they go with just about everything I own. I don't know if they carry them anymore in this particular style but the brand is Faded Glory, style "Josie". Try Vans as well. I was just looking at mine and they look like they have a deeper heel.

Shop around and compare the height of heels in different shoes. Try Kohl's, they have tons of styles.

If you're looking more for high heels, I don't have an answer for you. I think most high heels are pretty short anyhow.
Reply:You need custom made shoes. I should know, my sister is a shoe maker and she does them any which way it will help your feet...

Heels - how can I have less pain & stop my foot sliding forwards?

I bought a really nice pair of closed-toe court shoes for a friend's wedding, but within an hour of wearing them on the day my feet slid forwards and my toes were all scrunched up painfully at the front of the shoes. The heels and balls of my feet hurt too. I tried full insoles before the day to stop my heels coming out when I walked, but this only made the shoes too small at the toe. I tried "party feet" insoles on the day but they didn't help at all. I really like the shoes but I'm scared of wearing them again or buying any similar ones in case this happens again. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you!

Heels - how can I have less pain %26amp; stop my foot sliding forwards?
Two words:

Foot Petals

http://www.footpetals.com/

They sell them at JC Penney and have saved my life. I now have them in all my heeled shoes.
Reply:have someone give you a foot rub then get double sided tape and put it on the bottom of your foot
Reply:When I was in my teens and early twenties I wore shoes like that and tried everything. I kept wearing them and today I have mis-shapen toes, fallen arches and all sorts of problems as a result, so my advice would be not to wear them ever again and in future wear a slightly lower heel so that you do not get foot problems in the future.
Reply:I know what you mean. I love heels- I wear 3inch stilletos to Uni., most of the girls hate me. I guess, that i am now used to the pain, as I started wearing heels from a very young age. Failing that- i would go with selecting lower highs: kitten heels, perhaps. aand then gradually building your tolarance level. If you're anything like me- there is no point in telling you to stop wearing them...

From a fellow 'high heel' lover...
Reply:there are gel implants for the shoes especially beneath the toes, I've never tried them but others say they really work, but they're not cheap.
Reply:One time I put a few of the small, round band-aids on the soles of my feet. The event I went to involved a lot of dancing and moving, but my feet stayed in place! Make sure that the band-aids have the rubbery, almost foam top, not just the plastic.
Reply:The most expensive shoes I ever bought were like that and I ended up giving them to my friend as she didn't feel the pain.

If the party feet insoles didn't help, you could try a better quality one but I don't think that would help much. Try to avoid wearing those shoes when you know you will have to walk much or stand up. When you are sitting down, make sure your feet are in a position you feel comfortable in.

It's not worth ruining your feet or back or a nice pair of shoes. Bring an extra pair and change your shoes if your feet start to hurt.
Reply:Party soles with a sprinkling of talcum powder, my sister swears by it!
Reply:buy shorter heels .
Reply:There are heel cushions you can buy that will grip your heel and keep your foot from sliding. You probably have a narrow heel. Go to Easy Spirit and have them fit you in shoes that have an A or AA heel and a B front. The fit like magic.
Reply:Gee, is that why Podiatrists recommend women should not wear high heels ? Ya think ?
Reply:hi.

i buy a pair of innersoles that gripes the bottom of the shoe, i wear 3-4 inch heels out on the tiles one a month and dont come home till early morning. i used to not wear innersoles in my heels and found that it was very uncomfortable, since then i have worn innersoles as my feet dont slide forwards.

hope this helps
Reply:Velcro. Staple some to your foot and some to the inside of your shoes - your feet definitely won't shift inside the shoes then. Alternatively, if you really love these shoes you can try superglue but be prepared to wear the shoes 24/7 for about 2 weeks. Hope that helps...
Reply:well, just how far will you go to get the comfort? i saw an episode of tyra banks show the other day w/ a girl w/ the same problem and you can get a proceedure done to help. look at this link it should help. in the first paragraph read it all
Reply:I have tried a lot of different ways and non of them help at all, guess the only way is not to wear heels.
Reply:scholl - party soles... we jelly insoles that really dont spoil the night !!!

Best brand of shoes (esp. tennis shoes) for feet with high instep and high arch?

I have a hard time finding shoes that can support my feet because my feet have a really high instep. I'm a size 8.5, and my feet are medium width. I wear tennis shoes a lot, and I usually end up replacing the insoles with ones that are supposed to offer more support, but usually those don't even give enough support. I think I have a fairly high arch, too (or maybe it just feels that way because of my high instep).

Can anybody recommend good brands of tennis shoes and cute shoes that are best for feet like mine? Or maybe you know about insoles I can buy to put in shoes that are designed for really high arches? Thanks so much!

Best brand of shoes (esp. tennis shoes) for feet with high instep and high arch?
Sorry Kacey ,this has nothing to do with your question here but you answered one of mine and its totally awesome.I couldn't email you so I thought I would come here to tell you awesome..

The answer to your question about the shoes is

Munro American Shoes are my favorite. I walked all over France in my Cairns and have worn them to stand up and teach in all day. I have narrow feet with high arches and have trouble finding shoes with good arch support. All their shoes have rubber soles with good interior padding and are not heavy. Thank goodness I live in Arkansas where their factory is, so I can buy them at a discount. Got this from a link where everybody has problems with the samething.. check it out..
Reply:I also have a high arch and my feet are kind of wide but not enough to where I have to wear a bigger size. I have found that addias running shoes give the best fit, especially for any kind of running or anything thing. For just casual wear K-Swiss is good to.
Reply:Do you have a Roadrunner Sports store near you? If so, they organize their shoes according to people's different needs: arch height, under- or over-pronation, heavy heel striking, etc. They do the same thing in their catalog, which I'm sure you can see on the net. Good luck!

Shoe care and recommendations?
After four years of constant wear, I don't think you should be asking for advise on how to make shoes last. I've had a pair of New Balance runners since 2000, but they're only worn when I run. As long as you still like the shoes, I say keep them, however, once they start looking aged, I'd stop wearing them to the office.

The main key to keeping leather shoes in good shape is to keep them dry. If they are polished, some kiwi from time to time will make them last. If not, try leather conditioner.

You didn't mention the kind of work you do.

The bones in my feet hurt?

I've been playing ultimate frisbee with my friends alot lately and afterwards the bones on the top of my feet above the arches are just so painful. I've been a runner for most of my life and never had this problem before. Although I stopped running for about 2 years and this was to jump start me back in to some sort of exercise. But every time I play the pain is worse that night. I got out of bed today and almost fell in the suprising intensity of the pain. I've heard it's from arches but my shoes have decent arch support. I could try and change the insoles does anybody know a good arch support insole?

The bones in my feet hurt?
I've never played ultimate frisbee but I can imagine that it involves more than just running. Jumping and lateral movements put a lot more stress on the small bones in the feet. It could just be soreness due to new activity but the severeness of the pain as you described it might warrant going to the doctor and maybe getting some x-rays for a stress/hair-line fracture.

How to properly use heel liners in running shoes/sneakers?

Ok I know this is a rather dumb question, but I can't find a place in the heel where it feels right. Do you put them up at the top of the heel or at the bottom so it touches the insole, or somewhere in between? I have Dr. Scholl's heel liners, but is there some better brand, or another way to make shoes fit better that slip in the heels? (i don't want heel cups or insoles)

How to properly use heel liners in running shoes/sneakers?
You should take the insoles that came with the shoe out and use it as a template to cut the new insoles. If you go to a real running shoe store they will usually know which insoles you need and do this all for you.
Reply:Your best bet if you don't like insoles is to get shoes that fit. Go to a real runners shoe store and get fitted for shoes that fit your feet and match your style.

Anyone having pain in their feet and ankles?

I've had progressive pain in first the right foot and ankle and now have pain in both feet and ankles. I did a web search and FOUND the answer to my pain. The pain was in my ankles and heels. I bought pain creams, magnet treatments, many many shoes, pain tablets, insoles... I searched out "arch" pain and causes and that's it!!! I bought those walk fit insoles and never used them till tonight...I wrapped them on my feet with ace bandages and socks and wore them and the pain is slowly leaving!!! What relief I don't have to crawl to the bathroom anymore. Anyone know of some good inexpensive arch support shoes???

Anyone having pain in their feet and ankles?
Go to a podiatrist and get orthodics that fit your particular foot problem. I have worn orthodics for thirty years and they have ended my pain.
Reply:As someone else asked ,are you overweight. In general alot of people in this country are and that, contributes to aching feet and ankles, also I would check in with a gym if you don't already belong and have a trainer give you leg and inner thigh-muscle exercises, they don't change things over night but over a few months I found out personally you can dramatically strengthen your instep and reduce foot pain.

At any rate this is a most neglected muscle development area.

Good luck
Reply:have you tried exercising ur feet with calf raises? maybe you can get a trampoline for that.
Reply:Are you overwieight? That could be the problem. If not, go to a Chiro on a regular basis and take an aspirin every day and get a massage on a bi-weekly basis.

Horrible foot pain while working, help so I don't lose job!?

My doctor diagnosed me with falling arches and prescribed me special insoles to put in my shoes. However, the insoles hurt worse than being without them.

Recently I started a new job, standing 8 hrs a day. I can't even stand up anymore. I get home and I'm falling down all over, that's how bad the foot pain is.

It's basically swelling in both feet at about 2 hrs., then my feet start to ache at 3 hrs. on the job, then my feet start burning (I don't mean a slight burn, I mean "someone has a flame up to my feet" burn) this happens at about 5 hrs into the day. By the time the day is done, I'm basically falling over. I also have bad aches in my back.

Is it just the falling archs problems, or maybe something more medical?

Horrible foot pain while working, help so I don't lose job!?
CROCS! I have the same problem in my left foot. I could barely walk. I discovered a brand of shoe called Crocs. I can't believe how comfortable my foot is now! Put your arch supports in the shoes when you try them on, to get the correct size and try them on in the afternoon after your feet have already swelled up, as they will have increased at least a half size.

Depending on where you purchase them, they can cost as little as $35 and up. I have had mine for 6 months and they are as comfortable now, as the day I bought them. I don't wear any other brand of shoe. I CAN"T. I can't walk in anything else. They come in many styles.

These sites shows the styles available. I buy mine locally but you can order them here if you can't find them in a local store.

You may find that you don't need the arch supports but then again, you may still need them. Try the shoes both ways. They have enough give that the supports shouldn't hurt your feet.
Reply:sounds like maybe the orthotics need some modification. if you're looking for an informative website with educational information and products over the counter i would suggest trying myfootshop.com. it is very imformative and i think you might benefit from it, sounds like you have significant foot pain, if the site does not help call and make appointment with a podiatrist to get control of the pain. try using the direct links below to the site, give it a try good luck!
Reply:Face it, you need a job where your not on your feet so much.Get a written report from Dr. showing what your problem is and have him put down what you can do and how long. You may need this in the future.
Reply:I'm not a doctor, but I have had similar problems, being on my feet all day, too. Your back has a lot to do with the way you stand. Your shoes are also a problem. Make sure that you stand straight. I don't know what you do for a job, but it is important that you stand straight and wear good shoes. (shoesforcrews.com is a good start) Nobody realises sometimes that one part of your body that hurts could be caused by another part of your body in danger of becoming ill. (I know it sounds crazy) I would have your back checked out because maybe you have a pinched nerve somewhere in your hip or leg that would cause the burning sensation. Also, the insoles more than likely hurt because you're not used to them. Any part of your body that you change like that, will be discomforting because you're not used to it. Hope this helps you. Take care.
Reply:it sounds like you could have heel spurs/plantar facitis you need to go to a podiastrist who can xray your feet. with all the foot problems you are having you are not walking correctly which is making your back hurt.
Reply:Flat feet can cause really bad problems. I would talk to your doctor again and tell him your situation. You should not have to stand up 8 hours a day, maybe you can get a stool or something to help. Also you may need time to adjust to your new job if you are not used to being on your feet all the time.
Reply:this sounds kinda medical so if i were you I'd go to the hospital

just to make sure , or it might just be the shoes you were

Ever have a pinched nerve?

I have been adjusting to wearing insoles from my doc and suddenly have terrible pain in my lower back/upper tush area. Will this go away on it's own? I stopped wearing the insoles, but the pain is terrible. Don't want to call the doc if I don't need to.

What dance shoes offer the best support and cushioning for ballroom and/or social dances?

I am looking for a good practice shoe for ballroom and social dances. I would prefer something with a lower heel and profile (I own some bloch dance sneakers which I find to be too bulky), but am overwhelmed by the available options. I really need something with a cushioned insole because I get a lot of pain beneath the ball of the foot. I have been looking online at Elegance's Shazdeh practice shoe, because it claims to have cushioning and a flexible sole while retaining some support. Supadance offers something that looks sort of similar - the 8200 - and I notice they offer special insoles. Does anyone know anything about these companies? Sansha's salsettes also look good, as do some of the tango-specific dance sneakers, but I've never seen either of these types of shoes in person either. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What dance shoes offer the best support and cushioning for ballroom and/or social dances?
Everyone's feet is different, so it's hard to give universal advise. Best support, in my opinion: Supadance, Dance Naturals, International. Out of the above 3 brands, International is probably most cushioned.

Supadance is a good brand, one of the best actually, but if you're specifically looking for cushioning then probably you'll find Supa shoes too firm. I mean they all are properly cushioned, but it is not soft. I just went on Supadance website. 8200 is a Men's Latin shoe. Are you a guy?

Your avatar looks female, so I still assume you're a girl. You need pracice shoe, not men's latin shoe. Men's latin shoe is designed with different purpose in mind than social dance, they have short shank, but you say you need support, therefore you need longer shank, you need Ladies practice shoe, like Supa 1026 (they come in 4 colors). I have that shoe, I put regular drugstore-brand insoles in them. They came with insoles, but they are pretty thin. You might consider getting half-size larger and putting gel insoles in them.

Everyone in my studio is buying Sansha's now. The kind that's without the heel at all, I can't find it on the web. They look great, and people say you can feel the floor in it, unlike with regular dance sneaker.

Elegance isn't a great brand. I've never had them myslef, but I've seen a couple of people frown at the mentioning.

If you're looking for a big fat cushion try Stephanie. Their Standard shoes definitely have a lot of it. I tried them on. But their sole doesn't fit the profile of my foot, I can't wear them.

Capezio social shoes BR09 caused me a foot injurie. It was my first pair, I didn't know what proper support means. Capezio social shoes don't have a metal shank like all ballroom shoes are supposed to have. But on the other hand, my friend has Capezio BR19 and she likes them.

I wear Supadance and International, mostly court shoes and Latin sandals, but I have a pair of practice shoes by Supa.

When trying on your new pair, make sure there is no gap between your foot and the shoe in the middle. That usually leads to sore balls. Every barand is slightly different, and everybody has diffeent feet.

I hope it helps a little bit. Sorry I know nothing about Tango shoes.
Reply:I have Capezio Jr. Footlights. The heel is really low and the shoe is really form fitting. The insides seem to be pretty well padded, and you could always had an insert for extra padding. http://www.capeziostore.com/Leather_Jr._...
Reply:I absolutely love Capezio's Dance Professional 3. They are a little expensive, but are defintely worth it. If you don't want to spend that much money, Capezio also has several other lines that give needed support for Beginners.

Running Pains/Flat Feet?

Im a sprinter, but we do long ladder workouts and such occasioanlyl the distance run too, but recently ive been having really had it seems like shin splints? I had these last year too and they practically ruined my season

THe trainer says i have flat feet, i never new that but they dont look too flat to me. i guess its kinda mild. Anyway its got something to do with overpronation etc.

he recommended that i run with inserts or insoles. so i got some soft gel ones and they seem to help a little. Once i get warmed up my shins are almost pain free. but while warming up it still hurts to do plyometrics and such.

is this still a problem or is it just hte previous damage ive done to my shins. Also, i no there are those hard insoles (they're cushined, but the botton is plastic) are those better or are the soft gel ones better. I think the harder ones provide more support. Any ideas as to how else i can cope with this problem?

SO far i no u need to strech ur calves but thats aboutit

Running Pains/Flat Feet?
Welcome to the world of flat-footed running! I too am a flat footer and used to be prone to shin splints.

The insoles that the trainer is recommending are not the store-bought kind. What you can do is go to your local running store and have a pair MADE to support YOUR feet. That's the only true way that insoles will be helpful; if they are shaped for you. These are generally called orthotics, not insoles.

If you get good insoles, make sure you get the best shoes for your feet as well. The shoe place people will be able to help you chose based on the way you walk/run. Have them evaluate your stride and make suggestions.

In addition to good shoes and good insoles you want to ensure you keep your lower legs strong. Work your calves and ankles with plenty of strengthening and stretching (ask your coach or trainer to recommend some strengthing/stretches for you!). Your best friend will be toe-taps (pitter-pats) which means your feet are off the ground while you sit or lay in sit-up position and you tap your toes on the ground in rapid succession for a timed set. This helps with the ankles and the muscles in the calves improving strength and flexibility.

And since you can't "fix" shin splints, remeber to RICE them: Rest, Ice, Cold/Compression, Elevation. REST is the most important thing, you do NOT want to transition into full-blown stress fractures!!!

Good luck and get well!!!
Reply:Shin splints are a common thing with runners. Just so you know overpronation is when you roll your feet too far inward when you run. Normally, a person's heal makes contact with the ground and then your foot rolls in (or pronates), and the balls of your feet hit the ground so you can push off your toe and take your next stride. If you pronate too much, which you said you do, then it can result in shin splints. Insoles can help, but my advice to you is to just get a new pair of shoes. They make plenty of trainers designed for over-pronators. Go to your local running store, not just a sports store, but a RUNNING store, and they will be able to tell you which shoes are right for over-pronators like you. They are experts, and they will examine how you run and the shape of your foot to find the best shoe for you. Good luck!
Reply:Shin splints happen because you pulling the muscle along your shins when you run. There's a few things that will help:

- insoles/orthodics - these can raise your arch, reducing or eliminating shin splints, but be careful because they change how you run (I saw a physical therapist who gave me incorrect orthodics %26amp; it took me out of running for 2-3 seasons)

- toe taps other strenthening exercises

- having someone stretch your shins before you run, you can also rub/press along your shins moving from your ankle to your knee to warm them up

- icing after you run

- running on good surfaces - padded tracks are the best, flat grassy areas are great too, avoid pavement if at all possible

- take time off and cross train, I know that sounds awful, but it's better to spend one day on the bike/eliptical than have stress fractures
Reply:These insoles help to correct the overpronation in flat feet and you just replace your insoles with them and they are reasonable priced http://www.flatfoot.com/Product.htm

Gave me confidence, anyone else?

I recently asked about these secret height increasing insoles,

I got mine at http://www.dongfang.co.uk

At the time i was asking how many other people do it? Seems most people don't admit to wearing them.

Anyway, I bought these online last tuesday, got them delivered last thursday and since then my confidence has been soaring and i find people talk to me more and whats more, actually listen to what im saying.

Just shows that these dongfang insoles are good, has anyone else had the same effect?

How can I clean a suede or faux suede insole of my sandals?

The inside of suede sandals always gets soiled. Can they be washed in a garment bag in the wash machine or do you have another suggestion? A suede brush is not sufficient.

I haven't tried the washing machine but I clean mine fine by using an old toothbrush to slowly brush away the soils. The thuing is you have to do this immediately after wearing and not wait for days to clean them up. Hope this helps.

Whats the best cure for blisters on my insole....I get them from running and i use good trainers..?

have you tried proper running socks that draw moisture away from your feet? if you have an innersole in your shoes it can also make your feet more likely to heat up too and that's a negative. research running thermoregulation and look up feet in particular. everyone's different.

Any help hunting for a pair of shoes?

READ THIS BIT! Anyhow... I ran across three marvelous pairs of shoes today in my school's costume room. They look to be from the forties or fifties with a Louis XVI heel.

That's the short version; if you want more details, read below. Anyhow, I was wondering if anybody had any ideas as to where I could try and hunt down shoes like these so that I don't have to steal them from the costume room (because then I'd feel bad.)

One shoe of each pair was labeled "L.M. Miller/ Beautiful Shoes" on the insole and the insole of the other shoe of each pair was labeled "Guild House/ New Haven Connecticut." The insoles of one pair were also labeled "vixen last"

Hi, Maya. Do you have flexible or rigid flat feet? You can determine this by standing on your tip toes and noticing whether or not a natural arch forms when you do. If you've got flexible flat feet, chances are I can likely help you correct your feet. E-mail me at k.sordo@gmail.com if this interest you. You'd just need to do some exercises.

What basketball shoe offers the most arch support?

I have tried various insoles, some of them help but I want to start by making sure the shoe Im using has the best arch support, mid foot, and cushioning system available to me then if I add an insole it will be that much better when absorbing shock/impact. I suffer from pes planus (flat feet) and recurring shin splints, and need a top notch support shoe. I currently own Jordan 12.5's, Jordan Mens Star Rising, Nike Air Uptempo, and Nike Hurrache 07 model. I have asked for help in stores, alot of sales reps have no clue. I have tried insoles. Im looking for educational suggestions if nothing else just posting a basketball shoe that you have wore that you feel that is very comfortable. Im not worried about the price or brand name, although NO Starburys... I personally believe they are cheapos. Thanks for any help,

Need more support for Jogging .....?

so i had been running around the neighborhood (paved), and the bottom of my foot got sprained (the best thing i come up with is a mild case of "plantar fasciitis"). it never happened before and with the right foot preporations i blieve i can stop it from hapening again. anyway, i bought insoles and white tape for extra support. i dont even think that tape is even relevant seeing its the bottom of my foot (i dont see what the tape can do except just keeping everything still). anyway, i got a blister on the bottom of my foot from the insole.

do i need a larger shoe size with insoles?

is tape even necessary, and if yes what is the best way to tape up a foot???

and if anyone else had that condition, or does, what kind of foot support techniques do you use?

im just really looking for good suggestions so i can get into summer shape blister and pain free!!

thanks!!

Need more support for Jogging .....?
Well for one thing the tape can help cause a blister if not wrapped right. I have never heard of spraining the bottom of your foot. Pulling a tendon or muscle yes.

The insoles you purchase can be trimmed to fit your shoes.

Check the article out below, it is from the Mayo clinic, it tells you how to treat it and also tells you if left on treated it can end up being a life long condition.

Good luck to you

No matter what they will give out some time. Just dont bend the shoe or pick at the insoles. Get some new ones every once in a while, you will feel renewed!

Can any one recommend a good insole for doing alot of running and gym work?

Get the type tht are rubbery and smooth. I'd stay away from the brands that use a foam like material, as they don't have the density or rebound affect that is needed when doing strenuous workouts. I like dr. Scholl's massaging gel inserts. Or any of the brands tht use sorbatane in them.

Does anyone have recommendations for insole inserts for Plantar fasciitis?

I walk 5 miles a day and am having hell pain. I also would like to get recommendations for good walking shoes.

Does anyone have recommendations for insole inserts for Plantar fasciitis?
First, going to the podiatist is the BEST idea. Those insoles (even the ones from the podiatrist) don't usually work. But there are other treatments...and the exercises are good. The BEST shoes are Cherokee Rockers...wore them for years...and I am a nurse and on my feet 12 hrs a day straight. Just do a Yahoo Search and enter, "Cherokee rockers". There are several sites to buy them...or you could call local stores to see if they carry them. Good Luck
Reply:Go to a "Good Feet" store.
Reply:The only thing I've heard of is tapeing. I guy uses Duct tape down the side of his foot %26amp; then strips at 90deg. accorss his insole. Another one wrapes white medical tape around his insole and up his anckle like a sprain.
Reply:When the pain is present, you may want to actually go to the store and ask for a heel cup, which helped me more than insole inserts. Once the inflammation/pain goes away, the insole inserts help keep it from coming back.

Ask the pharmacist, or do a websearch for orthotics and look around in your area.

Everyone's feet are different, so maybe these shoes just aren't for you. Make sure you walk around in shoes before you buy them. Shoe shopping can be frustrating, but if you keep looking you can find a great pair.

Does anyone else have this problem with sandals???

I absolutely love wearing sandals, particularly flip flops, but if I buy a pair with a dark colored insole, the dye gets all over the bottom of my feet. If I buy a pair with a light colored insole, the insole gets a beautiful image of my foot imbedded into it by the dirt, which then transfers onto my foot everytime I wear them. I mean really, what is more romantic than to go to your man's place after a hot date, slip you sandal's off, displaying your gross insoles and then running to the bathroom to scrub the bottom of your feet before he sees the dye and dirt imbedded into your soles? I mean really, anyone else have this problem? And please forget the "cheap sandals, buy new ones" solution. My sandals are upwards of $60 since I live in Florida and wear year round. It doesn't matter how expensive or inexpensive, the problem is the same.

Does anyone else have this problem with sandals???
after you get the new dark colored sandals WASH THEM before you wear them like with a wash cloth and warm water just the part your foot goes on and then dry them and wear them for the light colored ones gettin dirty wash your feet before you leave and as much as you can throughout the day then after the day is over wash them with a wash cloth and warm water i had the SAME problem and did this and no more problems also on the light colored ones put some baby powder on the bottom of your foot after you wash and dry your feet it helps your feet not sweat as much and keeps the shoes semi nice just wash the bottoms of the light ones with some water if they are white use a tiny bit of rubbing alchol and water do NOT do it on any color except white it will ruin your shoes also use a pumice stone on your feet and get one of those calus shaver thingies they have them at walmart for 5 bucks i think and they use them at the salon when you get a pedicure and make sure your feet are silky smooth on the bottoms helps with the dirt stuff and at night use vaseline on your feet and put some socks on and get up and wash them off and use lotion helps a TON good luck and i know its hard work but it is WELL worth the time to keep your sandals nice

Which Shoe Orthotics are better for me?

I have had an arthroscopy for some torn cartilage in my knee and it seems i have problems with how my body mechanics work, I am now suffering from chondromalacia in the same knee.

I used to have some insoles but need a new pair but am being told by different things from different people. Some people say I need the 3/4 insoles which are solid and others say I need the full length softer insoles. I play basketball and have been told I over-pronate and have high arches.

I want to get some insoles to try and relieve some of the current pain and also to reduce risk of injury in the future but am confused on what to get. please help?

any advice would be great!!!

Which Shoe Orthotics are better for me?
First see a chiropractor. I over-pronate when my pelvis is out of alignment - weird but true. I also have Morton's Neuroma which he also helps with by adjusting my feet and knees.

I have had several expensive orthodics that have done absolutely no good, but found an athletic "insole" by New Balance that is wonderful and another by "superfeet" (I found it at the Running Room). The new thought on orthodics is that they should be soft, however, I found that a harder support under my arches is much more comfortable (Superfeet). Both of these insoles are well under $100 so I would try them first before going and getting orthodics made.

If you do go to get orthodics made - make sure the podiatrist does the measurements with you standing up not doing a cast while laying down.

I have some Springbak insole questions...?

If I take them off after a month would I still have the same vertical increase. If my shoes aren't tight do they still work? Does it make me jump 3 inches or so higher instantly? Does it even work? Thanks.

I have some Springbak insole questions...?
They work well, but they are not a training device so the second you stop using them you'll use the few inches of vertical that you gained. By the way the stronger you are and the higher you jump the better they will work. Vertical jump training workout routines are the only way to get lasting results. Want to jump 18 inches higher by September?

What is the best insole for your shoes when you have plantar fascitis?

The question you should be asking is what shoe is necessary to fit orthoses (if other treatments have been done)?

If you have tried calf stretches, Ice Rx, NSAIDs, Rest, Ultrasound treatment, avoided barefooted walking, and religiously worn a shoe with a good heel height from morn til night, and have been diagnosed with pathological mechanical foot dysfunction, then you should try orthoses BUT......the shoes have to have a stiff heel counter, stiff midsole and a good midfoot fastening, otherwise your orthoses will be a pure waste of money!

What is the best insole for your shoes when you have plantar fascitis?
The best insoles to get is to actually go and get fitted for a pair of orthotics.

Because they actually take your feet and make the orthotics for it, they will be the best thing for your condition. Any store bought ones won't give you the support you're going to need.

Unfortunatly they are pricey.... but they last for a long time and you can move them between most or all of your shoes.

I'm not sure where you are from so I can't tell you where to go. Talk to your Dr. he may be able to refer you to a good place to get them made.

Around here we have a company called BioPed which is amazing.

Good Luck!!

I have tried all the insoles available over the counter, they did zero. The temporary insoles, well I wore out the first ones, so had a second pair made and now I get the real deal. Two years and yes at times I was wondering if I would always be left wearing temporary insoles, was worth the wait, because my feet were too bad for the OTC ones that I purchased. Best of Luck

What is the best insole and water system for running a marathon?

Currently training for a marathon. I ran a half marathon last year, and feel like I could have performed better if my feet didn't hurt around mile 8.

When I checked my feet after the half marathon, skin was rubbed off around the ball of the foot, etc. Any suggestions to take care of the rubbing as well?

What is the best insole and water system for running a marathon?
It isn't so much about the insole as it is a well fitting show, good socks, and proper foot care.

It sounds like the shoes and socks you were probably weren't the best for you. Go to a dedicated running store and get them to help you pick out a good pair of shoes. You don't have to buy the most expensive ones, there are plenty of good shoes in the $50-80 range.

Get good socks. I personally like Pearl Izumi and Smartwool. Buy several pairs from different manufacturers and see which work the best for you.

Take care of those feet. Trim your nails, remove thick calluses, keep them clean and dry as possible before and during a race.

Finally, lube your feet. Slather it on, it really helps! There are many products for this ranging from Vaseline, Bag Balm (my favorite), to fancy stuff like Hydropel.

As for water systems, most road marathons have water stops every couple miles, you generally shouldn't need to carry anything. If you want to carry your own beverage that they don't serve, experiment with handheld water bottles, bladders, and what not. On trail runs I'll carry a hydration pack with a 70 or 100 oz bladder, depending on how long I plan to be out.

could b u walk heavier on the 1 foot however could also be a bacterial problem on that foot - put good quality, deodorising cat litter (yes u read that right) in an old pair of socks, with no holes in, tie the ends off %26amp; place them in ur shoes overnight. This will help to kill off any nasties lurking in them. Obviously good foot hygeine is also essential.
Reply:Have you got a one legged flatmate who is borrowing your shoe on the sly????
Reply:You obviously walk heavier on your left foot.
Reply:It is the agami insole scoffer...a rare breed....bit of a leftie..
